Five Master Edits Assignment Reflection
-The experience
The experience of recording was fairly easy because me and my group had already talked about what we had wanted out of the theme what we wanted our actors to do and how and when someone would disappear in our film. I would say that the harder part was definitely the editing part of the film, we had to cut scenes, edit in certain audios, having to constantly redo certain clips, and obviously having to add our master edits into the video. I definitely had a lot of fun recording the clips with everyone and editing the footage for our film.
-Master edit 1: Contrast
As we know the contrast master edit is the difference in between light and dark areas of an image. I used certain effects to bring that out in our horror film. As the film went on you would see the significant difference in between the dark surroundings of the film and the lighter surroundings of the film. You could also see that there is a constant use of the edit throughout the film if the emotions would change the environment and so on towards the end of the film.
-Master edit 2: Parallelism
Parallelism was mainly used to show how our third actor had disappeared. We had gone from a simple scene where our actor was going down the stairs a little too far ahead from the others. After the actors had noticed that our person went 'missing' they had run down the stairs to see where the person went. This scene caused a substantial change in emotion from cutesy and playful to eerie and fast paced. Our third disappearance is the only one that uses this master edit causing it to be incredibly unique and different from the others.
-Master edit 3: Symbolism
The main use of symbolism in the film is used when light flickers before our last actor or the 'survivor' finds the iPad without its owner. The light flickering symbolizes the arrival of not only the survivor but also the person breaking the fourth wall to speak to the viewer and possibly get help and find the 'missing' people. Using this as our symbolism had partially made the editing process easier, and less problematic because everyone had discussed before hand that this was the main effect that we wanted inside of the occurring film.
-Master edit 4: Simultaneity
Simultaneity is only used at the end of our film. This master edit is used when our actor the only 'survivor' transfers from being inside the building to going outside to run away from the school. As our actor runs away, he shows the school's name saying to never come here and that he will never be coming back to this school, leaving all the 'missing' people behind and running away before anything could happen to himself or the environment or surroundings around the school. This was one of the harder edits to edit because of having to retake multiple shots.
-Master edit 5: Leitmotif
In the film it was almost obvious what the leitmotif of our film was, it was the constant use of eerie music used whenever a victim or actor was about to disappear or get taken. As the disappearances continued the music would continue on until we looked for the actor that disappeared from the frame or the whole entire film. Leitmotif would always be used no matter what scene or shot was taken as most wouldn't want to constantly change the music when it already sounds great for most scenes for the film.
