5 Master Edits Assignment

https://youtu.be/B3et-P6i7Cs?feature=shared Five Master Edits Assignment Reflection -The experience The experience of recording was fairly easy because me and my group had already talked about what we had wanted out of the theme what we wanted our actors to do and how and when someone would disappear in our film. I would say that the harder part was definitely the editing part of the film, we had to cut scenes, edit in certain audios, having to constantly redo certain clips, and obviously having to add our master edits into the video. I definitely had a lot of fun recording the clips with everyone and editing the footage for our film. -Master edit 1: Contrast As we know the contrast master edit is the difference in between light and dark areas of an image. I used certain effects to bring that out in our horror film. As the film went on you would see the significant difference in between the dark surroundings of the film and the lighter surroundings of the film. You could also see...

Master Edit Notes

Cut • The most common transition — an instant change from one shot to the next. The raw footage from your camera contains cuts between shots where you stop and start recording Mix/Dissolve/Crossfade These are all terms to describe the same transition — a gradual fade from one shot to the next Crossfades have a more relaxed feel than a cut and are useful if you want a meandering pace, contemplative mood, etc. Scenery sequences work well with crossfades, as do photo montages Crossfades can also convey a sense of passing time or changing location Fade Fades the shot to a single colour, usually black or white. The "fade to black" and "fade from black" are ubiquitous in film and television. They usually signal the beginning and end of scenes Fades can be used between shots to create a sort of crossfade which, for example, fades briefly to white before fading to the next shot Wipe One shot is progressively replaced by another shot in a geometric...

Personal Favorite Reflection

In Stranger Things Season 1, Episode 3, “Holly, Jolly,” the story builds suspense as Joyce becomes convinced her missing son, Will, is alive and communicating with her through flickering Christmas lights. At the same time, the police find what appears to be Will’s body in a quarry, leaving the audience and characters confused and heartbroken. This dual narrative creates tension and uncertainty about what is real. The episode ends on a shocking note, pushing the mystery further. One of the most effective film elements used in this episode is lighting—especially the use of colorful Christmas lights. These lights become a key storytelling device, allowing Joyce to “speak” with Will from what we later learn is the Upside Down. This not only reinforces the supernatural theme but also visually guides the audience through her growing belief. Additionally, cross-cutting between Joyce’s discoveries and the police’s investigation deepens the suspense and makes viewers question what is re...

Episode Analysis

What was the grammatical move? The grammatical move was a cross-cutting technique that alternated between Joyce communicating with Christmas lights and the police discovering a body in the quarry. Describe, in detail, the specific move that you saw: The scene cuts back and forth between Joyce deciphering the lights strung up on her wall—trying to communicate with Will—and the authorities finding what appears to be Will’s body. These cuts get quicker and more intense as the scenes unfold. What was the effect? Why did the director choose to film it this way? This cross-cutting builds suspense and emotional intensity. It shows how two realities—one supernatural and one grounded—are unfolding simultaneously. The director uses it to blur the line between reality and the unknown, emphasizing the horror and disbelief the characters experience. Plot Summary (3–4 sentences): In this episode, Joyce becomes convinced that Will is alive and communicating with her through electricity. M...

Camera Angles Assignment

Image
Camera Angles Assignment The land before time (1988-2016) By Producer: Don Bluth          I chose this film because of the constant use of different camera angles used throughout certain scenes to show how little foot and his friends interact with each other while going on their adventures together. Due to technical difficulties, we were not able to find the actual year all the scenes that are being used were made or to be clearer, created. As you continue you will see how Don Bluth uses different camera angles throughout this film, and how they show the main character and his friends' emotions. As the shots from the movie are from contrasting times the viewer may see that in certain clips the characters may look slightly different or that their colors have changed.                       This Birds Eye view shot was taken to...
